Lip Lift Cost Turkey 2026: Bullhorn Lip Lift in Istanbul

Well-balanced lips are one of the keys to a harmonious, youthful lower face. With age, or simply because of genetics, the distance between the base of the nose and the upper lip, called the philtrum, can be long. The upper lip may look thin, flat or “stretched”, and the upper teeth may disappear when the mouth is at rest. Fillers can add volume, but they cannot shorten a long upper lip. A lip lift can.

I am Op. Dr. Akın Şahin, a European Board certified ENT and facial surgeon in Istanbul. Because I operate on the nose and lips every day, I pay particular attention to the relationship between the nose, lips and chin, and to placing the scar where it will be least visible. In this guide, I explain how a lip lift works, who it suits, what recovery involves and what the lip lift cost in Turkey includes in 2026.

What Is Lip Lift Surgery?

A lip lift is a short surgical procedure that shortens the distance between the nose and the upper lip. A carefully measured strip of skin is removed just beneath the nostrils, and the upper lip is lifted. As a result, more of the pink part of the lip (the vermilion) is visible, the lip looks fuller and more defined, and a small amount of upper tooth show returns at rest.

The most common technique is the subnasal “bullhorn” lip lift. The name comes from the shape of the incision, which follows the natural curve of the base of the nose and looks like the horns of a bull. Because the incision lies in the natural shadow beneath the nose, the scar is usually very discreet once healed.

Unlike fillers, which add volume outwards, a lip lift lifts and rotates the natural lip upwards. In patients with a long philtrum, adding filler alone often makes the lip look heavy or “duck-like”, while a lip lift restores the natural proportions without inflating the lip. I explain the differences in my article lip filler vs lip lift.

Why Is Lip Lift Surgery Performed?

The main goal of a lip lift is to restore balance to the lower third of the face. There are two typical groups of patients:

  • Younger patients who were born with a long philtrum and a thin, flat upper lip that shows little or no upper teeth.
  • Mature patients whose upper lip has lengthened and thinned with age, as the skin loses elasticity and the lip rolls inwards.

Another common reason is “filler fatigue”. Many patients have had repeated lip fillers for years and are tired of the cost, the maintenance or the filler migrating above the lip border. A lip lift gives a permanent structural improvement, and many patients find they no longer need fillers afterwards.

A lip lift also improves how the face looks in motion. A long upper lip can make the mouth area look tired or stern. By bringing the philtrum into an ideal range, usually around 11–15 mm, the smile becomes brighter, the Cupid’s bow more defined and the nose, lips and chin more balanced.

Types of Lip Lift: Which Technique Is Right for You?

There are several lip lift techniques, and the right one depends on the shape of your lips and what you want to improve:

  • Bullhorn (subnasal) lip lift: The most common technique. It shortens the central upper lip, increases vermilion show and restores upper tooth show. The scar is hidden beneath the nose.
  • Corner lip lift: Small triangles of skin are removed at the corners of the mouth to lift downturned corners and soften a sad or tired expression. It is often combined with a bullhorn lip lift.
  • Gull-wing (vermilion advancement) lip lift: The incision is placed along the lip border. It can define the lip line strongly, but the scar is more visible, so I use it only in selected cases.

For most patients, the bullhorn lip lift gives the best balance between a natural result and a discreet scar. When the corners of the mouth also turn down, adding a corner lip lift creates a more harmonious result.

During your consultation, I explain which technique suits your lip anatomy and show you what change is realistic.

Lip Lift or Lip Filler?

Lip filler and lip lift are often considered alternatives, but they solve different problems. Filler adds volume: it makes the lip fuller and can define the border. A lip lift changes proportions: it shortens the distance between the nose and lip and turns the lip outwards.

If your philtrum is normal and your lip is simply thin, filler is usually the right choice. If your philtrum is long, adding filler can make the lip look heavy and project forwards rather than upwards. In these patients, a lip lift gives a more natural result, and many no longer need filler afterwards.

Some patients benefit from both: a lip lift to correct proportions, followed months later by a small amount of filler for extra volume. You can compare costs on my lip filler cost in Turkey page.

Who Is a Good Candidate for a Lip Lift?

You may be a good candidate for a lip lift if:

  • The distance between your nose and upper lip is long, typically more than 15–18 mm
  • Your upper lip looks thin or flat, especially in profile
  • Your upper teeth are barely visible or not visible at rest
  • You want a permanent improvement rather than repeated fillers
  • You are in good general health and are a non-smoker or willing to stop

A lip lift is not suitable if your philtrum is already short (under about 11–12 mm), if you already show a lot of upper teeth at rest, or if you have active infection or uncontrolled medical conditions. In these cases, I may recommend lip fillers instead, or no treatment at all.

During your consultation, I measure your philtrum, assess your tooth show, lip shape, nose and chin, and explain exactly how much the lip can be lifted while still allowing the lips to close naturally.

How Is a Lip Lift Performed?

The procedure takes about 45–90 minutes and is performed as a day case.

  1. Measurement and marking: I mark the exact strip of skin to be removed beneath the nose, ensuring symmetry and correct proportions.
  2. Local anaesthesia: The area is numbed with local anaesthetic.
  3. Skin removal: A precisely measured strip of skin, usually 3–7 mm, is removed along the base of the nose.
  4. Deep anchoring: The lip muscle is anchored to the strong tissue at the base of the nose. This deep support carries the lift, so there is no tension on the skin, which is essential for a fine scar and a lasting result.
  5. Closure: The skin is closed with very fine sutures, and a light ointment is applied.

You can go back to your hotel or home the same day.

Lip Lift Under Local Anaesthesia

One of the advantages of a bullhorn lip lift is that it can be performed comfortably under local anaesthesia. You stay awake but feel no pain during the procedure. After a few small injections, which feel like a brief pinch, the area becomes completely numb within minutes.

Local anaesthesia has several benefits:

  • No general anaesthesia, and no nausea or grogginess afterwards
  • A shorter stay in the clinic
  • A faster return to daily life
  • A lower total cost

If you are anxious, mild oral sedation can be added. If a lip lift is combined with another procedure such as rhinoplasty or a facelift, it is performed under the anaesthesia used for that operation.

Preparing for Your Lip Lift

A little preparation helps your lip lift go smoothly and your scar heal well:

  • Stop smoking at least four weeks before and after surgery.
  • Stop aspirin, anti-inflammatory painkillers, fish oil, vitamin E and similar supplements about 10 days before surgery, unless prescribed by your doctor.
  • Avoid lip fillers for at least a few months before surgery, and tell me about any previous filler.
  • If you have a history of cold sores, tell me in advance; preventive medication may be recommended.
  • Plan non-urgent dental work before surgery or several weeks after.
  • Arrange soft foods, extra pillows and a few quiet days for recovery.

On the day of surgery, come with a clean face, without make-up, and eat a light meal beforehand, as the procedure is performed under local anaesthesia.

Lip Lift Recovery

Recovery after a lip lift is relatively quick:

  • Days 1–3: Swelling, tightness and some bruising around the upper lip and nose. Keep your head elevated and use cold compresses gently. The lip may look over-lifted at first because of swelling; this settles.
  • Days 5–7: Stitches are removed. Swelling decreases noticeably.
  • Days 7–10: Most patients return to work and social life, using light make-up if needed once the incision has closed.
  • Weeks 2–4: Most visible swelling has gone. The scar is pink and slightly firm.
  • Months 3–6: The scar fades into a fine line, and the final lip shape is visible.

During the first week, eat soft foods, avoid wide smiling and exaggerated mouth movements, and do not stretch the upper lip. Avoid strenuous exercise for two weeks. Protect the scar from the sun and use silicone scar gel as advised. I explain every stage in detail in lip lift recovery day by day.

Lip Lift Cost Turkey 2026: Prices and Packages

At my practice in Istanbul, the lip lift cost in Turkey in 2026 ranges from $1,200 to $2,800. The final price depends on the technique (for example, a bullhorn lip lift alone or combined with a corner lip lift), the type of anaesthesia and whether other procedures are performed at the same time.

What Affects the Lip Lift Price in Turkey?

  • Technique: A central bullhorn lip lift, a corner lip lift for downturned mouth corners, or a combination.
  • Anaesthesia: Most lip lifts are performed under local anaesthesia, which keeps the cost lower. Combined procedures under general anaesthesia cost more.
  • Combined procedures: A lip lift can be combined with rhinoplasty, chin filler or a facelift.
  • Surgeon’s experience: The scar beneath the nose is the most visible concern for patients. Precise planning, deep anchoring and fine closure require experience.

When comparing prices, please do not focus only on the lowest number. A badly placed scar or an over-lifted lip is difficult to correct.

What Is Included in the Lip Lift Package?

  • Surgeon’s fee, local anaesthesia and the procedure room
  • Medication and dressings
  • Follow-up visits and stitch removal
  • Hotel accommodation in Istanbul (package option)
  • Private airport, hotel and clinic transfers (package option)
  • Direct contact with me by WhatsApp during and after your stay

International patients usually stay in Istanbul for 5–7 days, until the stitches are removed.

Lip Lift Cost in Turkey Compared With the UK

In London, published prices for a bullhorn lip lift are commonly around £3,500–£4,500, and combined lip lifts more. A lip lift in Istanbul is therefore considerably more affordable, even after adding flights. I explain the comparison in detail in my article lip lift cost UK vs Turkey.

Lip Lift Before and After

Before a lip lift, patients usually have a long upper lip, a thin or flat vermilion, little central lip volume and no upper tooth show at rest. After a well-performed lip lift, the upper lip is shorter, fuller and gently turned outwards, the Cupid’s bow is more defined and about 1–3 mm of upper teeth are visible at rest.

When you look at before and after photos, pay attention to the scar beneath the nose, the symmetry of the lip and whether the lip still looks natural when the patient speaks and smiles. You can see examples in my gallery.

Lip Lift Risks and How They Are Minimised

A lip lift is a safe procedure, but like any surgery it has possible risks. The most common concern is a visible or widened scar, which usually results from tension on the skin, poor incision design or poor healing. Deep anchoring of the lip muscle, a carefully designed incision and good scar care are the best protection. I explain scar healing in detail in lip lift scar: what to expect.

Another risk is over-lifting: removing too much skin can show too much of the upper teeth or make it difficult to close the lips comfortably. This is avoided by precise measurement and a conservative approach. Under-correction is easier to fix than over-correction.

Other possible risks include asymmetry, temporary numbness of the upper lip, infection and changes in the shape of the nostril base. These are uncommon when the procedure is planned carefully and performed by a surgeon experienced in both nose and lip anatomy.

Lip Lift Combined With Rhinoplasty

The nose and upper lip are closely connected, and changes in one affect the appearance of the other. Many patients who want a rhinoplasty also have a long upper lip, and combining the two procedures in one operation can create a much more balanced result.

When the two are combined, I plan them together: the position of the nasal tip, the angle between the nose and lip and the length of the philtrum are all considered as one unit. The lip lift is performed at the end of the operation, under the same anaesthesia.

Combining the procedures means one recovery period and one trip to Istanbul. However, it requires careful planning, so I assess each patient individually to decide whether combining is right for them.

Lip Lift for Men

More men are now asking for a lip lift, usually because their upper lip looks long, thin or hidden under the nose. In men, the goal is different from women: a subtle shortening of the philtrum and a little more definition, without creating a pouty or feminine lip. Less skin is removed, the Cupid’s bow is not exaggerated and the result remains natural and masculine. A moustache or beard can also help camouflage the scar during healing.

Lip Lift Reviews and Patient Experiences

Patients who have had a lip lift often say the procedure was much easier than they expected, especially under local anaesthesia. Most describe the first three days of swelling as the most difficult part, followed by excitement in the second week as the new lip shape appears.

The most common reasons for dissatisfaction, when they occur, are unrealistic expectations, removal of too much skin, or a scar under tension. This is why careful measurement and deep anchoring matter so much. When you read reviews, look at how patients describe the scar months after surgery and whether their surgeon was available during recovery.

Are Lip Lift Results Permanent?

Yes. A lip lift permanently removes skin and shortens the philtrum, so the result does not wear off like fillers. The natural ageing process continues, and the skin will age over the years, but your upper lip will always remain shorter and better proportioned than it would have been without surgery.

Daily sunscreen, avoiding smoking and good skin care help keep the area looking youthful. If you would like more volume after healing, a small amount of filler can be added after 3–6 months, although many patients find they no longer need it.

Is a Lip Lift Painful?

The procedure itself is not painful, because the area is fully numbed with local anaesthesia. You may feel some pressure or movement, but no pain.

After surgery, most patients feel tightness and mild soreness beneath the nose rather than pain. This is easily controlled with simple painkillers such as paracetamol for a few days. Compared with rhinoplasty or a facelift, recovery after a lip lift is mild.

Is There an Age Limit for a Lip Lift?

A lip lift is performed on adults over 18. There is no upper age limit as long as you are healthy. Younger patients (20–35) usually have a genetically long philtrum, while patients over 40 usually seek a lip lift as part of facial rejuvenation, sometimes together with a facelift.

How much skin is removed?

Usually 3–7 mm, depending on the length of your philtrum and your proportions.

How much does a lip lift cost in Turkey?

At my practice, the lip lift cost in Turkey in 2026 ranges from $1,200 to $2,800, depending on the technique and any combined procedures.

How long do I need to stay in Istanbul?

Most patients stay 5–7 days, until the stitches are removed.

How long does swelling last?

Most visible swelling settles within 10–14 days. Subtle swelling can persist for 1–3 months.

Will a lip lift change my nose?

When the lip is anchored correctly to the deep tissues, the shape of the nose does not change.

Can I still have lip fillers after a lip lift?

Yes, after 3–6 months, once healing is complete.

What is the difference between a bullhorn lip lift and a corner lip lift?

A bullhorn lip lift shortens the central upper lip. A corner lip lift lifts downturned mouth corners. The two can be combined.
