Skin Booster Injections in Istanbul: Deep Hydration for Younger-Looking Skin
As we get older, our skin gradually loses its ability to hold water. It becomes drier, thinner and less elastic, fine lines appear and the natural glow fades. Creams and serums can help the surface, but they cannot reach the deeper layers of the skin where hydration and elasticity are created.
Skin booster injections, sometimes called the “youth injection”, deliver hyaluronic acid directly into the skin to restore hydration from within. I am Op. Dr. Akın Şahin, a facial surgeon in Istanbul. In this guide, I explain what skin boosters are, how they work and what results you can expect.
What Are Skin Boosters?
Skin boosters are injectable treatments based on hyaluronic acid, one of the main building blocks of our skin. Unlike dermal fillers, they are not designed to add volume or change the shape of the face. Instead, they spread evenly through the skin, attract and bind water, and improve the quality of the skin itself.
In addition to deep hydration, skin boosters stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep the skin firm and elastic. This starts a process of renewal at the cellular level, making the skin look healthier, smoother and more radiant. The aim is not to change your features, but to restore the natural quality of your skin.
Who Are Skin Boosters Suitable For?
Skin boosters are suitable for almost every adult who wants to prevent signs of ageing or improve the condition of their skin. They are particularly beneficial if you have:
- Dry, dehydrated or dull skin
- Fine lines and crepey skin
- Loss of elasticity and firmness
- Rough skin texture or enlarged pores
- Skin damaged by sun exposure or smoking
- Early signs of ageing on the neck, décolletage or hands
Skin boosters are also an excellent preventive treatment for people in their late twenties and thirties who want to maintain healthy skin for longer.
Why Have Skin Booster Injections?
From our mid-twenties, the natural production of hyaluronic acid and collagen in the skin begins to slow down. This process is accelerated by sun exposure, pollution, stress, smoking and poor sleep. As a result, the skin gradually loses moisture, firmness and radiance.
Creams act mainly on the surface layer of the skin (the epidermis). Lasting rejuvenation requires nourishing the middle layer of the skin, the dermis, where collagen and elastin are produced. Skin boosters deliver hyaluronic acid directly into this layer, restoring hydration and stimulating renewal where it matters most.
How Are Skin Boosters Different From Other Treatments?
Patients are often unsure how skin boosters differ from other injectable treatments. A simple way to think about it:
- Dermal fillers add volume and structure. They lift the cheeks, define the jaw and fill lines and hollows.
- Anti-wrinkle injections relax the muscles that cause expression lines.
- Skin boosters improve the quality of the skin itself: hydration, elasticity, texture and glow.
- Salmon DNA (polynucleotides) supports cellular repair and regeneration of thin or damaged skin.
- Mesotherapy delivers vitamins and antioxidants to nourish the skin.
These treatments do not compete with each other; they work at different levels. A face with good structure but dehydrated, dull skin will still look tired. Equally, beautiful skin over a face that has lost volume will not look fully refreshed. The most natural rejuvenation comes from addressing each level as needed.
Which Areas Can Be Treated?
Skin boosters can be used on most areas where the skin shows signs of ageing or dehydration:
- Face: To improve overall hydration, glow, fine lines and texture.
- Under-eyes: To improve thin, crepey skin with special, lighter products.
- Neck: To reduce fine lines and crepey skin. The neck is one of the areas that shows ageing most quickly.
- Décolletage: To improve sun-damaged, wrinkled skin on the chest.
- Hands: To restore hydration and reduce the appearance of thin skin.
Skin Boosters for the Neck, Décolletage and Hands
The neck, décolletage and hands are often neglected in skin care, yet they reveal age as clearly as the face. The skin in these areas is thinner, has fewer oil glands and is constantly exposed to the sun. As a result, crepey texture, fine horizontal neck lines and a dull, sun-damaged appearance develop over time.
Skin boosters are one of the most effective treatments for these areas. Hyaluronic acid spread evenly through the skin improves hydration and elasticity, making the skin smoother and less crepey. Horizontal neck lines become softer, and the décolletage looks fresher. On the hands, skin boosters improve thin, dry skin and can make veins and tendons look less prominent. Combining the face, neck and décolletage in one programme creates a harmonious, natural result.
Your Consultation
During your consultation, I examine your skin closely: its hydration, thickness, elasticity, texture and any sun damage or pigmentation. I ask about your skin care routine, lifestyle, previous treatments and what you would like to improve.
Based on this, I recommend the right product and technique for your skin and explain how many sessions you are likely to need. If your concerns would be better addressed by another treatment, such as fillers for volume loss or Endolift for sagging, I will explain this clearly.
How to Prepare for Your Treatment
- Avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatory painkillers, fish oil and vitamin E for a few days before treatment, unless prescribed, to reduce bruising.
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before treatment.
- Pause retinoids and exfoliating acids for 2–3 days before treatment.
- Come with clean skin, without make-up.
- Plan treatment at least one week before an important event.
How Are Skin Booster Injections Performed?
- Skin assessment: I assess your skin type and condition and plan the treatment areas.
- Cleansing: The skin is thoroughly cleansed and disinfected.
- Numbing: A numbing cream is applied for about 20–30 minutes to make the injections comfortable.
- Injections: The skin booster is injected at specific points or through a series of micro-injections. Some techniques use a small number of injection points per side of the face, from which the product spreads evenly through the tissue.
- Aftercare: A soothing cream is applied.
The whole treatment usually takes 15–30 minutes. Small bumps at the injection points are normal and disappear within a few hours to a day as the product spreads.
Benefits of Skin Boosters
- Deep hydration: The skin’s water-holding capacity increases significantly.
- Improved elasticity and firmness: Collagen and elastin production is stimulated.
- Natural glow: The skin looks fresh, radiant and healthy.
- Smoother texture: Fine lines and roughness are reduced.
- Natural result: Facial features do not change; only skin quality improves.
- Minimal downtime: Most people return to their daily activities immediately.
- Preventive effect: Regular treatment helps slow down the visible signs of ageing.
Skin Boosters, Salmon DNA and Non-Surgical Rejuvenation
Skin boosters can be combined with other skin quality treatments for an even more complete result. Salmon DNA (polynucleotides) supports cellular repair and is particularly effective for thin, damaged skin and the under-eye area. Mesotherapy adds vitamins and antioxidants.
In my practice, I often combine these treatments in a personalised programme. Skin boosters provide hydration and elasticity, salmon DNA supports repair and regeneration, and anti-wrinkle injections soften expression lines. For patients with volume loss or sagging, dermal fillers or Endolift can be added.
Recovery After Skin Booster Injections
Recovery is quick. Small bumps, slight redness and mild swelling at the injection points are normal and usually disappear within 24 hours. Small bruises may occasionally appear and fade within a few days.
To support your result:
- Avoid make-up for 12–24 hours.
- Avoid saunas, hammams and intense exercise for 24–48 hours.
- Do not massage the treated area unless advised.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Use sunscreen daily.
Possible Side Effects
Skin boosters are among the gentlest injectable treatments, but mild side effects can occur:
- Small bumps at the injection points, usually resolving within 24 hours
- Redness and mild swelling for a day
- Small bruises, which fade within a few days
- Rarely, small lumps that can be softened with massage or treatment
Serious complications are very rare when treatment is performed by an experienced doctor using certified products.
What Affects Your Results?
Several factors influence how well your skin responds to skin boosters:
- Age and skin condition: Dehydrated and sun-damaged skin often shows the most visible improvement.
- Lifestyle: Smoking, heavy alcohol use, poor sleep and sun exposure shorten the effect.
- Skin care: Daily sunscreen, a good moisturiser and, where appropriate, retinoids and antioxidants support and prolong the result.
- Following the full course: Skin boosters work best when the recommended number of sessions is completed.
An Example Skin Quality Programme
Every programme is personalised, but a typical plan for a patient in her forties with dull, dehydrated skin and early fine lines might look like this:
- Month 1: Skin booster for the face and neck, plus anti-wrinkle injections for the forehead and crow’s feet.
- Month 2: Second skin booster session, plus salmon DNA under the eyes.
- Month 3: Third skin booster session.
- Every 6–9 months: A maintenance session.
This combined approach improves hydration, elasticity and expression lines at the same time, creating a fresh, natural result.
How Many Sessions Are Needed?
For the best results, an initial course of 2–3 sessions, about four weeks apart, is usually recommended. After this, a maintenance session every 6–9 months helps keep the skin hydrated and firm. The exact plan depends on your skin condition and age.
Who Has Skin Booster Treatments?
My skin booster patients are of all ages. Patients in their late twenties and thirties often use skin boosters as prevention, to maintain healthy skin and delay the signs of ageing. Patients in their forties and fifties use them to restore hydration and elasticity, often in combination with other treatments. Many patients also choose skin boosters before an important event, such as a wedding, for a natural, healthy glow.
Skin Boosters for Men
Men’s skin is generally thicker and oilier than women’s, but it is equally affected by dehydration, sun damage and ageing. Many men want to look less tired and healthier without any visible change to their features. Skin boosters are ideal for this: they improve hydration and texture with no change to facial shape and no downtime. They can also improve the appearance of enlarged pores and rough texture, which are common concerns in men.
Results Timeline
- First few days: The skin feels more hydrated and looks fresher.
- 2–3 weeks: Improved glow, smoothness and elasticity become visible.
- After the second session: Fine lines soften and the skin feels firmer.
- After a full course: The skin is more resilient, hydrated and radiant, with results lasting several months.
Why Have Skin Boosters With a Doctor?
Although skin boosters are a gentle treatment, they are still injections. The correct product, depth and technique depend on the area being treated and the thickness of your skin. The under-eye area and neck, in particular, require experience to avoid irregularities. As a facial surgeon, I use only original, certified products, and I plan your treatment as part of an overall approach to your face rather than as an isolated procedure.
Are Skin Boosters Permanent?
No. Hyaluronic acid is gradually broken down by the body over time. The results of a full course usually last 6–12 months, depending on your age, skin condition and lifestyle. However, the collagen stimulated during treatment continues to support the skin, and regular maintenance gives cumulative benefits.
Are Skin Booster Injections Painful?
Skin booster injections are performed with very fine needles after applying a numbing cream. Most patients feel only mild discomfort. Many products also contain a local anaesthetic, which makes the treatment even more comfortable.
Is There an Age Limit?
Skin boosters can be performed on any adult over 18. Most people start in their late twenties or thirties for prevention, but there is no upper age limit. Mature skin often shows the most visible improvement in hydration and texture.
Who Should Not Have Skin Boosters?
Skin boosters are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in people with active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area, in people with known allergies to hyaluronic acid, or in people with certain uncontrolled autoimmune diseases. Please tell me if you take blood-thinning medication or have a history of cold sores.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the difference between a skin booster and a filler?
A filler adds volume and changes the shape of an area. A skin booster spreads through the skin to hydrate it and improve its quality, without changing the shape of the face.
When will I see the results?
You will notice improved hydration and glow within a few days. The full effect, with improved firmness and elasticity, is visible after 2–3 weeks and improves further after the second session.
Can skin boosters be combined with anti-wrinkle injections?
Yes. They work very well together: anti-wrinkle injections relax expression lines, while skin boosters improve skin quality.
Can I have skin boosters in summer?
Yes. Skin boosters do not make the skin sensitive to the sun, but daily sunscreen is always recommended.
Will skin boosters change the shape of my face?
No. Skin boosters spread through the skin and do not add volume. Your features stay the same; only the quality of your skin improves.
Can I have skin boosters before a wedding or event?
Yes. Ideally, plan your course so the last session is at least two weeks before the event, when the glow is at its best and any minor bumps or bruises have resolved.
