Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty in Istanbul: Nose Filler

non-surgical rhinoplasty istanbul

The nose sits at the centre of the face, and even small irregularities can affect the balance of your whole profile. Not everyone who is unhappy with their nose wants surgery. Some people would like to smooth a small hump, lift a slightly drooping tip or correct a minor asymmetry, without an operation and without weeks of recovery.

Non-surgical rhinoplasty, also known as nose filler or liquid rhinoplasty, makes this possible. Using carefully placed hyaluronic acid filler, the shape of the nose can be refined in about 15–30 minutes, with immediate results and no downtime. That is why it is often called the “15-minute nose job”.

I am Op. Dr. Akın Şahin, an ENT and facial plastic surgeon in Istanbul. I perform both surgical rhinoplasty and non-surgical rhinoplasty, which allows me to advise you honestly on which option is right for your nose. In this guide, I explain how nose filler works, what it can and cannot achieve, and what to expect.

What Is Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty and Who Can Have It?

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is a procedure in which small amounts of hyaluronic acid filler are injected into precise points of the nose to change its shape. It does not make the nose smaller. Instead, it creates the optical illusion of a straighter, more refined and more balanced nose by filling the areas around an irregularity.

Nose filler is suitable for people who:

  • Have a small hump on the bridge of the nose
  • Have a slightly drooping or under-projected nasal tip
  • Have a low or flat nasal bridge
  • Have minor asymmetries or small irregularities after previous surgery
  • Want to see how a change might look before deciding on surgery
  • Prefer to avoid surgery, anaesthesia and downtime

How Is Nose Filler Performed?

The procedure is simple and comfortable:

  1. Analysis: I examine your nose from the front, sides and below, and discuss exactly what you would like to change.
  2. Numbing: A numbing cream is applied. The filler also contains a local anaesthetic.
  3. Injection: Very small amounts of filler are injected at precise points along the bridge, above and below a hump, at the tip or at the angle between the nose and upper lip.
  4. Shaping: The filler is gently moulded, and we check the result together in the mirror.

The procedure usually takes 15–30 minutes, and only a small amount of filler, typically 0.3–1 ml, is needed.

Who Is Nose Filler Suitable For?

Nose filler works best for mild to moderate concerns. It is particularly effective for:

  • Dorsal hump camouflage: Filling the areas above and below a hump creates a straight profile.
  • Tip lift: A small amount of filler at the base of the columella lifts and supports the tip.
  • Bridge augmentation: A low bridge, common in some ethnic noses, can be raised for a more defined profile.
  • Post-surgical touch-ups: Small dents or irregularities after surgery can be corrected once healing is complete (usually after 12 months).

Nose filler is not suitable for making a large nose smaller, narrowing a wide nose, or correcting breathing problems. These require surgery.

What Are the Advantages of Nose Filler?

  • Quick and comfortable: The procedure takes 15–30 minutes.
  • No surgery: No incisions, no general anaesthesia, no splint and no packing.
  • Immediate results: You see the difference straight away.
  • No downtime: You can return to work the same day.
  • Reversible: Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved if needed.
  • A “preview” of surgery: It allows you to see how a straighter profile or lifted tip would look.
  • Long-lasting: Results typically last 6–18 months, sometimes longer.

Aftercare After Nose Filler

  • First 24 hours: Avoid touching, pressing or massaging the nose.
  • Make-up: Avoid make-up for 12–24 hours.
  • Exercise: Avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours.
  • Heat: Avoid saunas, hammams and very hot showers for 48 hours.
  • Glasses: Avoid wearing heavy glasses that rest on the treated area for about two weeks if possible.
  • Sleep: Sleep on your back for the first few nights.

What Is Normal After Nose Filler?

Mild redness, swelling and tenderness at the injection points are normal and settle within one to three days. Small bruises may appear and fade within a week. The nose may feel slightly firm at first.

Contact me immediately if you notice severe pain, whitening, blue-grey discolouration of the skin of the nose or forehead, or any change in your vision. Although rare, these signs may indicate a vascular complication requiring urgent treatment.

Who Should Not Have Nose Filler?

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • People with an active skin infection or inflammation on the nose
  • People with known allergies to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine
  • People who had nose surgery less than 12 months ago (except in special cases)
  • People with severe breathing problems, which require medical or surgical treatment
  • People with unrealistic expectations, such as wanting a much smaller nose

Is There an Age Limit for Nose Filler?

Nose filler is performed on adults over 18, when the growth of the nose is complete. There is no upper age limit as long as you are healthy.

How to Prepare for Nose Filler

  • Avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, vitamin E and ginkgo for about one week before treatment, unless prescribed by your doctor, to reduce the risk of bruising.
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment.
  • Come without make-up on your nose.
  • Bring any reports or photos from previous nose surgery or filler treatments.
  • If you have a history of cold sores, tell me in advance.
  • Plan treatment at least two weeks before an important event, so any minor swelling has settled.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty Step by Step

On the day of treatment, you can expect:

  1. A short consultation to confirm the plan.
  2. Photographs from several angles.
  3. Numbing cream for about 15 minutes.
  4. Injections, which take around 10 minutes.
  5. A final check in the mirror and brief aftercare instructions.

The entire appointment usually takes less than an hour.

How Long Does Nose Filler Last?

Nose filler usually lasts 6–18 months. The nose moves very little, so filler can last longer here than in the lips. Some patients see results for up to two years. Longevity depends on the product, the amount used and individual metabolism.

Why Choose a Rhinoplasty Surgeon for Nose Filler?

The nose is considered one of the highest-risk areas for filler injections, because its blood vessels are connected to those supplying the skin of the face and the eyes. Correct technique, correct depth and a detailed knowledge of nasal anatomy are essential.

As a surgeon who performs rhinoplasty and revision rhinoplasty, I see the internal structure of the nose every day in the operating room. I know where the blood vessels run, how the skin behaves on different parts of the nose, and how cartilage and bone shape the profile. This experience allows me to inject safely and to plan results that look natural. It also allows me to tell you honestly when filler is not the right option and surgery would give a better result.

Nose Filler After Previous Rhinoplasty

Some patients who have had surgical rhinoplasty are left with small irregularities, a slight dent on the bridge or a minor asymmetry. In selected cases, these can be improved with a small amount of filler, avoiding a second operation.

However, a nose that has been operated on has scar tissue and a different blood supply, so the risk of complications is higher. I usually wait at least 12 months after surgery and inject very small amounts with great care. If the problem is larger, revision rhinoplasty may be the better solution.

Nose Filler for a Low Nasal Bridge

A low or flat nasal bridge is common in some ethnic backgrounds and can make the face look flatter in profile and the eyes appear further apart. Nose filler can raise the bridge, create a more defined profile and improve the support for glasses. Because the result can be built up gradually, it is an excellent way to explore a higher bridge before considering surgical augmentation.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty for Patients From Abroad

Non-surgical rhinoplasty is ideal for international patients because it requires no recovery time. You can send me photos of your nose from the front and both sides before you travel. I will let you know whether nose filler is suitable for your concern or whether surgery would be a better choice. Treatment can usually be performed on the day of your consultation, and you can fly home the next day.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty for Men

Men often want a straighter, stronger nose without changing its masculine character. Nose filler can camouflage a hump and strengthen the bridge while preserving a natural male profile. Because men usually have thicker skin, results tend to look smooth and natural.

Myths and Facts About Nose Filler

  • Myth: “Nose filler makes the nose bigger.” Fact: Only a small amount is used. Because the profile becomes straighter, most patients feel their nose looks smaller.
  • Myth: “Nose filler can replace surgery for everyone.” Fact: It is only suitable for mild to moderate concerns.
  • Myth: “It is risk-free because it is not surgery.” Fact: The nose has an important blood supply. Nose filler must be performed by an experienced doctor with expert anatomical knowledge.
  • Myth: “The filler moves around.” Fact: When correctly placed, the filler stays in position.

Can Nose Filler Lift the Tip?

Yes. A small amount of filler placed at the base of the columella and the angle between the nose and upper lip can lift and support the tip. If the tip is pulled down when you smile, this is caused by the depressor septi nasi muscle. Relaxing this muscle with a small anti-wrinkle injection can enhance the effect.

Treatments That Can Be Combined With Nose Filler

  • [Chin filler](https://drakinsahin.com/en/chin-filler/): A balanced chin makes the nose look smaller and the profile more harmonious.
  • [Lip fillers](https://drakinsahin.com/en/lip-fillers/): Balancing the lips with the nose improves the whole lower face.
  • Anti-wrinkle injections: To lift the tip during smiling or soften lines on the nose (“bunny lines”).

Is Hyaluronic Acid Safe for the Nose?

Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally present in the body and is the safest filler for the nose because it can be dissolved. I never use permanent fillers in the nose, as they cannot be removed and can cause long-term problems. Safety also depends on technique: I inject slowly, in small amounts, in the correct plane and in the midline, and I always keep hyaluronidase available.

Nose Filler Before and After

The most visible change after nose filler is seen in profile. The bridge appears straighter, the hump is camouflaged, and the tip looks lifted. You can see examples of my work in the gallery.

Is Nose Filler Permanent?

No. Nose filler is temporary, which is also one of its advantages: you can try a new shape without committing to a permanent change. If you would like a permanent result, surgical rhinoplasty is the right choice. You can learn more on my rhinoplasty in Istanbul page and on my rhinoplasty cost in Turkey page.

Can Nose Filler Be Done in Summer?

Yes. Unlike surgery, nose filler does not require a long recovery or strict sun avoidance. I simply recommend avoiding intense heat, sunbathing and saunas for 48 hours, and using sunscreen.

Risks and Side Effects of Nose Filler

Most side effects are mild and temporary: redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising. Rare complications include infection, lumps and asymmetry, which can usually be corrected. The most serious but very rare complication is vascular occlusion, which can affect the skin or, extremely rarely, vision. This risk is the reason nose filler should only be performed by an experienced doctor with expert knowledge of nasal anatomy.

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty vs Surgical Rhinoplasty

  • Procedure time: Nose filler takes 15–30 minutes; surgical rhinoplasty takes 2–4 hours.
  • Anaesthesia: Nose filler needs only numbing cream; surgery requires general anaesthesia.
  • Recovery: Nose filler has no downtime; surgery requires 1–2 weeks of visible recovery.
  • Reducing size: Nose filler cannot make the nose smaller; surgery can.
  • Breathing: Nose filler cannot improve breathing; surgery can.
  • Duration: Nose filler lasts 6–18 months; surgical results are permanent.

If your concerns are small and you prefer to avoid surgery, nose filler is an excellent option. If you would like to reduce the size of your nose, narrow it, or improve your breathing, surgery is the right choice.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How long does nose filler take?

The injection itself takes about 10–15 minutes; the whole appointment is under an hour.

Is it painful?

Most patients describe only mild discomfort thanks to numbing cream and the anaesthetic in the filler.

When can I return to daily life?

Immediately. Most patients return to work the same day.

Will it look natural?

Yes. Only small amounts are used, and the aim is a straighter, more balanced nose that suits your face.

Can it be reversed?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.

Can I wear glasses after nose filler?

Light glasses are usually fine, but I recommend avoiding heavy frames resting on the treated area for about two weeks.

Will my nose look bigger?

No. Most patients feel their nose looks smaller and more refined because the profile becomes straighter.

How much does the tip lift?

The tip can usually be lifted by a few degrees, which is enough to make a drooping tip look more youthful and refined. Large changes in tip position require surgery.

Can nose filler fix a crooked nose?

Mild deviations can be camouflaged by filling the depressed side of the nose. A significantly crooked nose, especially if it also affects breathing, requires surgical correction.

Can I have nose filler if I plan rhinoplasty later?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved before surgery. Please tell your surgeon about any previous filler.

How much does non-surgical rhinoplasty Istanbul cost?

The cost depends on the amount of filler needed. Please contact my clinic for a personal assessment.
