Lip Filler vs Lip Lift: Which Is Right for You?<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>

When patients come to me wanting fuller, more attractive lips, they usually ask for one of two things: lip fillers<\/b> or a lip lift<\/b>. Both can transform the lips, but they work in completely different ways. Choosing the wrong one can lead to disappointing or unnatural results. In this guide, I explain the difference and how I decide which one is right for each patient.<\/p>

How lip fillers work<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>

Lip fillers<\/b> add volume directly to the lips with a soft hyaluronic acid gel. They make the lips fuller, improve their shape and can correct asymmetry. The treatment takes 15\u201330 minutes, there is no incision, and you can return to normal life the same day.<\/p>

How a lip lift works<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

A lip lift<\/b> is a short surgical procedure that removes a small strip of skin just under the nose. This shortens the distance between the nose and the upper lip, called the philtrum<\/b>, and rolls the upper lip slightly upward so more of the pink part of the lip shows. It is usually performed under local anaesthesia in about 45\u201360 minutes.<\/p>

The key question: is your upper lip long or thin?<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>

This is the most important point. Many patients with a long upper lip<\/b> ask for fillers because their lip looks small. But adding filler to a long upper lip often makes it look heavy and protruding, the classic “duck lip” look, without fixing the real problem.<\/p>

A simple check: relax your mouth and look in the mirror. If you can see 2\u20133 mm of your upper teeth, your lip length is probably fine, and fillers may be enough. If you can’t see your teeth at all, or the distance between your nose and lip looks long, a lip lift may give a much better result.<\/p>

Yes, and for many patients the best result comes from both. A lip lift corrects the length and shows more of the lip, while a small amount of filler adds volume and definition. I usually perform the lip lift first and add filler after about three months, once healing is complete.<\/p>

Which is more natural?<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>

Both can look completely natural in the right hands, or unnatural in the wrong ones. The most natural result comes from choosing the right treatment for your anatomy, not the one that sounds easiest.<\/p>

How I decide<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>

I look at your face from the front and the side, measure your upper lip length and check how much of your teeth show at rest and when you smile. I also ask what bothers you most: volume, shape or the length of your upper lip. From there, I recommend the option that will give you the most natural, lasting result.<\/p>
